Gtr2 DX9 tracks
Been annoying me a long time the dull look of the Gtr2 tracks.
Found out a long time ago that the main problem was faults in the shaders .
But have failed to fix it with the GFX.gtr
In the archive there are descriptions of the issues and how to fix it.
So this is one solution that is easy to use and implement
the download is the Gtr2 Base tracks GMTs changed to Dx9 as most are limited to dx8 by default.
Anderstorp also got a texture update and a .trk file update due to some faults in the track file.
Add the animations file for more people by the Pit lane.
Included are also how to do tracks in 3dsimed.
The loose gfx.gtr are an slightly updated gfx 170a for those that are using the gfx 1.70 I have uploaded on RD. It is overloading the dx9 textures with light.
You can also use the base gfx.
In the options folder :
The Gtr2.exe are from the WEC mod on this site slightly modified as Gtr2 wants to use Dx7 shaders for the Menus and the HUD. This Gtr2.exe allows part of the code to be modified and I have point them to use the dx9 version of the shaders.
This morning I made the EEC Nordschleife Dx9 in less than 15 minutes , including some bump maps around the GP circuit. That is how easy it is.
This track got too much ambient light mornings and evenings in dx9.
I know somebody are working on improving the track so will leave it to them.
The advantages making tracks dx9 are more consistent lights . Slightly higher fps for most computers.
A small load of 5-8% are moved from Cpu to Gpu so if you are already limited by Gpu you might not get that.
The effect of more fps are mainly in racing against a large field .
Hope you will enjoy them and report any issues.

Should have it all fixed by now.
Been a little under the weather and then could not link from the upload.
Changed the structure a little bit by including the clear dds file lose in the shared folder and also included in each object folder.
So no more need for a new Misc.gtr
The tracks them self are the same as uploaded on RD.

Re: Gtr2 DX9 tracks
Take a quick look at this but there are problems.
Your mich.gtr isn't found by any track because it's not added to the trk file.
You also converted the marbles.gmt files which didn't work correct after this.
At Imola there are only three textures.
More I didn't look.
Once more this would need to rework around 200 tracks for me.
Never would do this...

Re: Gtr2 DX9 tracks
Made a mistake in gamedata/location/shared
the file MICH.gtr should be MISC.gtr
Same content as the original + !A_Clear.dds
There are no changes to imola textures

Re: Gtr2 DX9 tracks
I can relate to the idea. There is something dull/boring/missing in GTR2.
Like there's an element of excitement missing that is there in some other games.

This is what you write in your track changes text:
Imola:
Objects to DX9
All grass changed from 3 tex to 4 Tex
Changed grass_adddx8 to Grass_AddDx9.dds
Was included in the map file so no textures added.
Some of the texture flicker sorted itself by the Dx9 change. But gave up on the last two flicker items
Think it is a good improvement to this track.

Re: Gtr2 DX9 tracks
This is a wonderful idea and i think it could be something wonderful
but its not for me but me, im having some major issues with it like most tracks not working and crashing the start of the load, Tracks like, Monza, Doni, Spa, Imola and Spain dont work and im having problems loading races from other tracks as well,
I'm sure its not the mods fault more mine but is there anyone who can post the vanilla tracks and files to go back to as it was before please?
again its not the mod you have made just i prefer the way it was before
Thank You

Re: Gtr2 DX9 tracks
Made a patch for the incorrect naming in first post and a complete download with the right naming for misc.gtr.

Re: Gtr2 DX9 tracks
Useless? How should I compare things when I didn't know exactly what to compare?
I wanna see the difference in grass textures you said/write but I didn't because there are no changes.

Re: Gtr2 DX9 tracks
Actually it works.
I still have it on my original tracks.
The thing is that some tracks are made to work with textures under dx8 shaders.
So when you point them to dx9 some textures get messed up.
I understand that even "track editor software" messed up your things by the time you export all your work.
Now my new "patch" has make a huge difference for me. (by forcing SRPL shaders to all dx9 tracks)
And it needs, to fully work, that tracks have dx9 shaders and tested and developed with my new "patch".
So I encourage you to do dx9 track for us (specially if it takes you 15 min nords.. I have been playing with 3dsimed 3 and I get nothing, i am way too far)
And if you have the EEC NOrds already done.. pls send me the link and I will post the sshots with the explaination of your idea, wich is correct.
Now you cannot leave us behind without a texture update if its needed for the track too.
I have also trouble with Imola2004 track but it was the only one. at least for me.
The thing is with my new "patch" a lot of things get better but on some tracks... I think solution is to suggest to make a fresh instal only for my "patch" and for dx9 tracks.
Then they choose what tracks look actually better.
But for better looking (dx9 and some dx8) tracks.. I know my new "lighting and shaders patch" is needed.
Although the ideal is tracks done with dx9 shaders.
So pls share you DX9 for nords!! salutes bjarne. Hope you finished your VR stuff. I see on RD it was a hot topic.
