Re: Interesting RF1 mod
That won't solve anything because people will rather download the free version and convert it themselves.kk08 wrote:The only solution is releasing a free version for GTR2/rFactor and a payware version for AC (at least you can earn money).
Luckily (or sadly) my GTR2 mods are not so good to be converted to AC.
Payware mods are only profitable when they have no alternative, meaning that if the only chance to get a mod is to pay (because there's no free alternative), then people will be more inclined to actually spend money. The moment someone leaks a private/paid mod, the hype is gone, the reason to spend money is gone and the prift is gone.
I am part of a couple of private groups where free links to paid mods are provided and the amount of leaked stuff they have is almost on a 1:1 scale compared to the "real" versions of those mods that would need to pay otherwise.
I have also recently joined a number of different modding communities, which are dedicated to other games outside of racing simulations, and there's a relatively huge market for paid mods there because what they offer is:
1) Unique, there aren't 800 different versions of the same vehicles;
2) Everything is scratch made, source material is lacking as it's a driving simulation which doesn't actually involve racing cars or street cars so you can't convert something that doesn't exist;
3) Prices are fair and the mods are constantly updated, unlike AC scammers that sell you a broken car once and never bother fixing it afterwards.
I also won't release anything public anymore. I have one last project that I have committed to and will honor as it's too far in development already for it to be canned now (we are 60% in), but after that, I will retire from public modding once and for all. I won't stop working on my own projects or helping friends and other modders with their own projects, but I have no more interest in seeing my own work public.

modders are back in their private forums sharing their stuff only with a small group of trusted people.
that is the opposite of moving forward, this is how this scene started 12 years ago:-)
That's not what I meant. Pay mods have become a recent trend that it is the norm now. You'll even see it in older sims. And sure, people will move to private modding, it's already happened on games like GP500, rF, AMS, GP4, RBR. But I am not surprised, majority of mods for these games nowadays are conversions, from the Real Racing 3 game or Forza, Turbosquid or even now: GT Sport. Not to mention people are aiming now for high poly count, something which these games may not handle well on older PCs. It might be better to go private with the scene as this. Although even if it is private, they're still supporting the game, and I'll appreciate that.

@ChaosZero
You're right: they are not profitable but my goal is not to make money. My goal is that AC scammers must not make money.
I see a bad future for our hobby but while my mods are not involved I will continue to release everything. My real enemy is lack of free time. I would like to learn how to make AIW files for GTR2, templates, 3d models from scratch and, of course, convert more cars.
P.S. I have many tutorials but no time to learn.....

Re: Interesting RF1 mod
no offense but having no time is an excuse for not having the patience to learn something new.
I can speak of my own experience.
If you really want to do these things, chose one at a time and take your time to learn it and let it sink in....
it´s a lot of trial and error first but it is so amazing and satisfying to see your own work someday:-)
Don´t rush it, just take your time and spent 15 min. per day or so to learn something new.
I guess that much time can be spent by everybody, its just that you really need to want to learn that stuff.

All this development of things is not good, a few individuals are responsible for the fact that a majority can no longer enjoy free content and obviously you can not do anything about it, beautiful modern times ....

yepp and unless i and jody get credited for the superGT stuff they put out claiming its theirs ill take down all links and ill decide who get the link. basicly this will suck for people with no contribution or less then X number of posts which depends on my daily mood.
i wanna see how they promote upcoming content when we dont even work on it

Re: Interesting RF1 mod
My 2 cents---I am not a modder and have never claimed to be. I enjoy most mods that are released. I always say thank you or appreciated when I download someones work. The modder doing the work must and has spend lots of time perfecting their craft. The worst thing is when someone or some group takes this mod and releases it as their own. No thank you or no credit. In the real world if this happened the "bad" guy would be punished, not the innocent individuals. In the world of rfactor, GTR2, AMS, etc. the people being punished are the innocent. This is not right but i understand this is the way it goes. I am not telling the original modder not to take his product "off the market"-it is his right to do so and i do not condemn him for doing so. No one likes when his product is stolen and then released later as someone else product. The world of PM is coming shortly or is here already to try and get mods. Also, payware for mods is here. The world of free mods for all is coming to an end. Finishing up-I again say thank you and appreciated for your work. Please keep working on your mods and release them if you want or keep them private as is your right.

Or you know maybe you could mind your own business mate. Keep hating others because it won't change anything
