A Desperate Man's Plea (V8 Supercars 1993 - 2002) Empty A Desperate Man's Plea (V8 Supercars 1993 - 2002)

If i could have a moment of your time.

I have been sim racing for about 16 years now.
It has enabled me to live out some grand motorsport dreams. In this time i have become Formula One World Drivers Champion for just about every year since 1950. I have clocked over 400kph on the Mulsanne Straight in a 1980s death trap. I have battled everyone from Richard Petty to Kyle Bush on the great ovals of America. I have dished out and received some pretty audacious passing maneuvers in the BTCC.
I have won the Spa 500km/1000km/6/12/24
I have driven a Freightliner truck around the Nordschleife.
I have driven a toilet around la Sarthe.
I was there when they tried putting 6 wheels on an F1 car.
I was there when Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison went toe to toe.

But, alas, there has still been a gaping wound in my chest cavity for so long...

V8 Supercars 1993 - 2002.
What i consider the golden years of the series.
We have:
Cars from the 70s with the Bathurst Legends mods for rFactor/Aussie Legends for rfactor 2
We have half of the 80s and a small part of the 90s covered with the Touring Car Legends for various sims
(Here we have gaping hole) Sad
And we now have the wonderful mods from 2003 onwards for various sims.

My heart has been broken a couple of times throughout the years.
Team HRMs '97 mod seems to have fizzled out and Mak Corp never finished their Classic Touring Car mod with the EB Falcon.

All I want is to have Johnson’s iconic EL #17 shove me out of the way at Lakeside as he is rounding the final corner with 3 laps to go and ruin his race, or tumble through the sand trap at Caltex Chase like Mezera did or even take out fellow AU drivers in their struggle to take it to HRT. I want to drive my Mitre 10 AU Falcon directly into the hind quarters of the Big Kev (rip) VT Commodore and shroud South West Sydney with the fire and smoke burning on the racing fuel that is keeping this flame burning inside my soul.
Grids of 40 odd cars. 50+ at Bathurst.
Handfuls of factory backed teams.
Privateers pitted against each other in a seperate for cash.
The Banana Boat car, Ingalls Castrol GTX car, any DJR car. :0

I don’t care what sim.
I will cough up what little money I have if need be.
I know for someone who has very little to contribute in terms of modding and skinning I am asking a lot.

But hey, a man can dream...

I am in the same boat as you for as long as I've been sim racing but alas I do not think we will ever get these years or cars. Not only are there too many there wasn't enough interest in a 98-2002 project for rFactor 1 several years ago. Same with a retro pack for FG and VE's for FVR few years ago. All we can do is dream tbh Sad

Hey mate, I've been battling with Bruno Gourdo and Don Matrelli, I can understand your true passion. There's plenty of missing racing eras: first that springs in my mind is Cart in the late 70s-early 80s (how I would drive a Chaparral...) or USAC in the 60s; the golden age of Formula 2 in the seventies. We can only dream, or evaluate whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer the missing of them, or to take arms against a sea of troubles facing 3D modeling... oh, wait, that's the Hamlet in me Very Happy

To make your dreams come true there I have a recipe for grandmas v8 super cake:

search if 3d models of the cars are available
if no: your dream will be longer a dream...
if yes: find someone to convert them (hey, I'm interrested)
next: find skinners they will help, you need alot of skins.

Shocked Very Happy

I have tried to get into modeling but i just end up in the fetal position, cradling a blanket.
It seems way over my head.
I have the "HPDC V8 SC 2005" mod and i love it. But from what i read the models aren't "painter friendly".
I know the AU Falcon has appeared in the TOCA Race Driver series and the Grand Tourismo games.
Im not sure on how id get the models though.

You can always try unwrapping the model again. These are simple Toca Models so they arnt complex but you’d have to reskin everything.

You would have to do a bit of work too to get them to look nice unless you make a mod for private use and don't care too much.

If you want to achive the dream.. its not to late to learn.. you can start with 3d and maybe make these models.. might be tough but its not over your head.. if you follow simple youtube vidoes and see how people model from blueprints.. it will be easier to learn.. dont give up

I'd really like to do simple changes (especially with the hypercars coming, can't stand shark fins). I think the biggest difficulty is using 3dsimd to get the cars to show.

Any video recommendations?

I may be wrong, but wasnt Merlin making such mod? I remember he talked about a AUstralia V8 mod with almost all missing seasons, including some 90's IF i am correct, but it was a long time ago and pictures were never shown .
However if he was not bluffing the models must have been available for some platform as he did not model, only converted.

But again im not 100% sure if it went as back as the seasons you are aiming for

Good news folks!!! I had this in one of my old backups.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

This was uploaded at nogrip. It's the  2005 v8 supercars skinset. TRD3 had the 2005 season but the gtr2 mod featured 2006 cars and simza88 converted the skins to GTR2.

If any of you has TRD2 files, please upload them. If the cars have been recycled in TRD3 I can convert the skins to my HPDC 2005 mod.

There were screenshots in masterblastermodding blog before the shutdown 2 years ago. The mod was done but I don't know if it has ever been released (I wasn't a member in that moment).

Ford AU Templates by bazwaterboy:

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Sadly no Commodore VX templates as far as I know.

If anyone has TRD2, please share the files. I think we can obtain more skins. I think codies have recycled 3d models in TRD3.

ANOTHER EDIT:

You can copy logos or skins if needed. (skins extracted from TRD3 game, no need to ask for permissions)

Many thanks! Those templates are hell, so I can't name any timeframe for release, unfortunately.

I already have 2005, 2006 and HPDC carsets in place united in one mod. It's a shame, that there is no VX Commodore template because 2004 grid has, at least, two of these cars and no AU Falcons at all.

Also, what files from TRD2 do you need specifically?

We could try to ask in request section if one of our members can make a template like bazwaterboy did.

(I will make the thread)

About the files I need the .big files related to the V8 supercars. I own TRD3 and the .big files were in a folder named "v8" in the "cars/vehicles or whatever was" folder. I only need the .big files then I will open them with 3dSimed and, if (as I suspect and hope) the mapping is the same, we will get many skins in few minutes.

Here is .big files from ToCA Race Driver 2.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Also, there is a few prblems that need to be solved.

First off - rain tyres.

Then we need Wakefield Park track to be converted from rfactor's version.

There ie some issues with Adelaide track as well. I tried two versions, first - Adelaide 24h v1.0., in turn 7 AI constantly cuts deep into the corner and crash the cars, so in few laps there is 5 to 7 cars left cruising across the track with 10 sec gaps to each other. Another one is Adelaide 2011 v1.0., - entering turn 4 AI hits inner curb and goes upside down into turn 5.

Serfers Paradise needs ghost tyre markers in the chikanes to be hard just like those at Enna Pergusa.

Thank you very much! About rain tyres, ok I can make them. About tracks, I'm not a track modder.

Yesterday on igcd.net I finally understood what is the slight difference between Holden VY and VZ (2nd mirror, shorter wheelbase, exhaust position). So I will convert it too.

This means I will work on a new version of my mod (it won't affect your work) after extracting the skins from your archive.

Yea Toca templates are awful, I had to make my own for the one Monaro I painted for the FIA mod but it seriously needs a complete remap.
