Re: [RELEASE] OULTON PARK 90s (RF2 Conversion) by FRM
Okay it's a lot better than the previous version of Oulton, considerably less jumpy now BUT and its a big but, frame rate is very poor and very inconsistent. I was testing on my own, the only car in session with a default Saleen S7R (which default cars are not frame hoggers.) and I was seeing lows of less than 40 FPS, when I'm driving the car and 25 FPS when watching the AI drive the same car in the TV Cam. On my old computer that would be a godsend, but on an i5-2500k and a GTX 970 which is MORE THAN ENOUGH for GTR2, that frame rate is simply unacceptable. I'd hate to see what would happen if I ran a full grid. It'd be a PowerPoint presentation. It definitely needs more optimisation. Also when you start in the pit garages, you start in the paddock. And yet the pit lane is actually behind where you spawn, not to the right where the pit exit arrow says. The player car should always spawn in an actual pit garage not the paddock, the paddock is for overfill.

Interesting, i'm on an i5-8600 3.1ghz, and integrated graphics and getting 60fps plus solo with some dips to 40 in a pack of 30 cars - with the super touring mod which is about same fps as default GTR2 content. Any particular areas of the track that have worse fps than others?
I don't consider the spawn a point a major issue, although I didn't do the AIW.

I'll take a look, and also ask if anyone has similar issues.

Thank you Furi, was a blast to drive and I had no issues with the frame rate running 36 stock cars, for those with frame issues try turning off trackside characters and turning shadows down and see how that affects it.

I like the track but like Crimson, i'm having issues with framerate aswell. I ran an open test session with the BTCC cars and there was so much lag i couldnt drive the car. Now arguably i'm running on an 8yo laptop so its bound to happen, but every other track i have even the fia gt tracks run fine without issues.

OP updated - alternate TRK files for those struggling with FPS, and Mediafire mirror for main track.

With Furi's alternate TRK's and this tip can confirm FPS is normal again. Stays at a consistent 180 FPS (I've capped the game to this figure to avoid glitches.) That's with trackside characters turned off, and shadows on Low with Shadow Quality at Medium.

Re: [RELEASE] OULTON PARK 90s (RF2 Conversion) by FRM
Was looking forward to a nice version of Oulton but the framerate issues are surprising. Am I missing something? I can get up to 200fps on some tracks (i7-2600k @ 4.2Ghz / 1080) but this one is up and down between 30 and 60. Even tried the high fps TRK files - didn't seem to work.

Re: [RELEASE] OULTON PARK 90s (RF2 Conversion) by FRM
I don't thank people often enough. I had a version of this great UK track called Oulton Park and although i could only have an 18 car race i enjoyed the changes in height and the twisty nature. A few days ago i found this version and i am truly amazed at how improved it is. Big thanks to GTP_furinkazen . i really enjoy the staggering 50 car grid, round the small circuit it gets quite busy! What i like best is how you have added the extra cars in the truck park area. This is like what someone did at Watkins Glen, its great driving round to pitlane. You have spent much time with details like this, thanks. I also enjoy the road cars parked round the track, a good mix of European cars, much better than the SIMBIN tracks have. Its so good for me that i have had many races in just two days. Large grids are great fun, i enjoy starting at the back and seeing how i fair. If the real track is anything close to this you UK people are very lucky to see races there. You have many up and down tight tracks i think, i like driving these.
Maybe this is off topic (apologies) but how easy is it to add more cars/garages?

Bit tricky to add more. But... we will have an updated version with better FPS, and AIW released soon!
Also that is actually how the support paddock is laid out, they drive to the holding pen where they emrge at pit exit... Oulton is my local track so had to replicate

Hi GTP_furinkazen,
Great to hear you using local knowledge, I will keep an eye out for updates.
With regards to my question about adding cars/garages I was referring to other tracks with low max vehicles.

Well the fact that someone are making conversions it kinda gives some hope to GTR2.
So i like for that.
But yes unfortunately FPS are terrible. And trk will not fix that.
Now Im not a track guy but maybe mip map needed.
Mip map bias in Virtua_LM tracks are probably the best. You will get no flikering and great looking trees at the distance.
I would check some VLM track and see what mip maping are used on what texture, and try to replicate.
Also I would check their shaders use.
I think conversions are a great way go.
So once you can do it well on one track you can replicate the process. And it becames easier.
All I can do for now is in this post:

You are incorrect - Trk has fixed it - it was shadow related - shadowreceivers were turned on by default on every single item on the track, even toilet cubicles.... For reference I'd regularly have the following FPS solo/with a grid of 30 cars.
Snetterton - 300/100
Oulton (old) - 60/35
Now I have 130/60 at least on Oulton.
Agreed tho the VLM tracks look fantastic.

Ok. If you fixed with .trk FPS must be nice again. Guys will thank you.
I think I never actually try it because track was just awfull looking even with my patch.

This Oulton Park is for us GTR2 users - high Quality.
A lot of objects - producing shadows, about the complete Area -
the shadowangle to for example 300 - setting is in GTR2 without function.
--> Shadow-Setting - middle, helps, no track-objects produces shadows.
And the Track, Gras, ..... havent a Shader, only T1-Diffuse.
There is a lot to do, but - we shall happy to get rF2 - converting - tracks to GTR2.

yes I agree there is a lot to do the right way.
But If you have the knoweledge.. why not do it? (of doing tracks)
we all agree Virtua_LM was great.. why not to copy them way?
after all these years I think it would be nice if those that have the hability start to deliver some quality content instead of just doing it for the sake of uploading.
anyway thank for sharing.. we all apreciate your effort in conversions and upload

This version that was released was much better FPS than when I got the track originally... before hand it was almost double the file size as well!
