Circuit de Catalunya 2003, 2006 and 2009

I have poured hundreds of hours in this versions as I wasn't happy with ones that we had. Yes, vadaklaut has released version which have all layouts used up to 2016 but no matter which layout you drive you always see same scenery around the track and same banners and IMHO that is highly unrealistic.

My favourite layout is and always will be one used since 2004 up to 2006 and I got an idea to try to edit default GTR2 2003 layout into standalone 2006 track by adaptating vadaklaut's parts to it. As it turned out, it was to be much easier then I thought as he has also used default GTR2 2003 track as a base. My work started circa 2018 and I was progressing quite well considering that back then I know nothing about track editing and after few weeks I have managed to replace meshes of La Caixa corner with ones from vadaklaut's track, got 2006 track layout in game and could race on it. But...

As I can't make new AIW I had to use one from vadaklaut's track and his track has trackside areas paved with tarmac in many corners and AI is using that tarmac in many of those corners. As my track doesn't have tarmac in those areas (as it wasn't there in 2006) that look strange and I have tried to find someone who can make me new AIW but couldn't find anyone so I decided to not release the track at that time.

Last year I run some tests in AC and used their Circuit de Catalunya. I was blown away with some details on that track and decided to try to add some of them to my 2006 track. Most important addon was main grandstand and I have managed to add it after a lot of fiddling with repsitioning, rotating and resizing and then I was hooked and started changing/adding other objects and remodeling/retexturing many existing objects.

While I was working on that Sunalp2 has rejoined our community and agreed to help me with AIW so I continued my work.

As I was adding new objects and was close to finish 2006 track I decided to also make standalone 2009 version as in that year I was there on Les 24 Hores de Barcelona race and have huge amount of photos that I took on various points around the track since I had paddock pass which allows me to go wherever I want (A huge thankyou goes to Borja Veiga who made that possible). As I already had 2006 version almost finished I didn't expected that one would take too long. Boy how wrong I was as when I started to compare my photos with what I have in game it turned out that many tribunes wasn't there in 2009 or was changed position/size/shape so that one also took few months to be finished.

Finally, while I was working on those 2 I have find recording of 2003 FIA GT1 race on YouTube and discovered that many banners around the track was wrong. I also knew that some terrain was wrong as I have changed it in my 2006 and 2009 versions so I decided to also give 2003 version a small rework which in the end again turned into few months of work and stopped me from releasing this on time for 2023 F1 race.

Finally all problems are sorted out, I got final version of AIW from Sunalp2 and I can share with you what I consider only version of 2003, 2006 and 2009 versions of Circuit de Catalunya that you will ever need for GTR2.

Yes I can change some more objects or replace them with better ones from AC and add some more new objects from AC but I'm happy with current state of tracks and can run races with 40 high detailed cars and good framerate even without CC plugin (With CC plugin it runs even better).

From what I read the 2003 version is based on the FIA GT race, 2009 on Barcelona 24H and the 2006 track which event should represent?

2006 shouldn't represent any real event.

1995 to 2003 layout was my favourite but 2004-2006 layout was so nice too, I remember lot of action those years in La Caixa corner in any competition, especially during the first years.

Regarding banners, if I'm right Marlboro was the main advertisement until 2006 when Telefonica entered as main sponsor for Formula 1 GP.

Back in the years, there were many different sponsors around the track. I can remember La Vanguardia, Mundo Deportivo, Repsol, Toyota, Quadis, Allianz and many others. Sadly, today there are a few sponsors and most of them are institutional, especially in the pitlane zone.

I was working with what I had for banners. For 2003 i have mostly used footage from FIA GT1 race that I have find on internet. For 2009 I have used my own photos from 24H race that year and for 2006 I have used photos that I have found on internet but most of those banner was pure guessing.

Banners above garages are (mostly) based on my photos from 2009 but as there isn't same number of garages there was no way for me to put same number of banners and keep them proportional to real life so I opted for some artistic freedom.

Good to see your still around Scorpyo, been a long time since the days of chatting on F1C, good to see your still active too, I've done bits on and off over the years but nothing to release really, mostly mod fixing, this work of yours looks really good, I won't download as of yet as currently no GTR2 game setup since a PC death about a yr ago but when I get round to setting it back up I'll be sure to give it go.
