what 3d for painting you want to use?

if i would add a 3d file for painting to the templates what file you would want?

.obj? .max? z3d? 3ds? or just as gmt?

I use 3dsimed. I have Blender and 3ds Max but I'm not very proficient and would need a write up of instructions on how to get the materials to display and how to change them. I usually change the material to a .jpg to save time on saving and then only save the .dds version when i'm ready to view it ingame.

I prefer X-file when I paint the skin.

then I open it in Deep Exploration and set the texture that I work on as psd file. That way whenever I save my psd file it is automatically refreshed in Deep Exploration. Furthermore even if my Photoshop crash I won't have to redo a lot of stuff again.

I always like using Scorpyo's x-file in 3dSimed

Did you say X Files?

Is it possible to use 3D painting in Photoshop and what file formats does it support? Ive never actually tried doing it before.

note: because of the shaders used for sce/ams there has to be a alpha channel on all textures, this cause that the car will shown transparent on deep exploration or 3dsimed, maybe you have to remove the alpha channels for painting and add them later again when saving your paintings as .dds... in 3dimed you also can change the transparency on materials editor so theres no need to remove the alpha channels


edit: updated link... i added also a obj file what you open with nearly all 3d programs also you can use it for photoshop 3d painting

I think Deep Explorer is the best,
you can see changes in realtime.
so better quality in less time, especially in the distorted and cutted parts

I heard about those programs but , I dont know how to use them specially what Marijo doing on CS open the odj. I could save much time

Ive always tabbed into the game to check my work while I'm doing it.

you can open photoshop and just drag and drop the obj into it or you can right click the obj and open with photoshop... then you have the 3d in ps and ähm yes... i paint on the normal way so i cant say more ^^ marian explained it today to me but... im stuck now...

My cheap tutorial for deep exploration, that is in my view quicker and simpler
self learned, so you probably have more effective protocols, but we're here to learn each others and share

You have an xfile that is the 3dfile and many tga whose are the texture of it.

Open the model in deep expl, and your tga in photoshop gimp whatever, then use your body1.tga as a normal template, you can add all layers you need, including shadows, wireframe everything as usual, and save it without closing the tga file
(then press ok to merge all layers)
just refresh deep exploration, (in older version just press f5), and you're see your car in 3d, you're watching live what you're paiting
and this is a special help, especially in the difficoult parts, more quality, less time. I can't image Xl22 with more quality, and faster :=)

Important, make many bakups as long as you're working, save as body1.psd, because once you close your template.tga, you're merging all layers, when you will reopen it, you have a single layer.

In my experience you save time when you're using not so many layers and all in 2048x2048,
in this case you can save time in trasferring layers from your tga to another psd.

All Scorpyo's mods, came with template and xfiles, but expert modders like daniel, I'm sure you're able to make xfiles for all cars, once I made an xfile myself for Peg RCZ for bathurst mod, (actually part of it)
I don't remember how I made it, but I'm sure expert guys with 3dsimed, can make an xfile in few minutes :=)

I couldnt really figure out exploration but i fiddled around with PS for awhile and started to understand it. My first impressions is that its a really good preview tool and will probably be best used for placing logos in parts that spans different sections personally. I would still probably use the 2d template to paint everything else on.

in the end you dont paint in deep exploration, its more a viewer where you can turn around the car and check your painting without starting the game everythime

if you have opened the obj or x-file in deep explorer make a double click on the material you want to paint... for example the wccarbody, a new window will pop up, there you can assign your psd on it...

And whenever you save your .PSD it will automatically refresh in DE. That way even if your Photoshop crash you'll only have to redo things done from last save...

i tried it and it dosnt worked ^^ dont know if theres a difference between obj and x-file? i saved the psd but it wasnt updated on deep exploration... is there a setting for it on the options to reload the textures when it changed?

TBH wouldn't know. I use combination of Xfile and DE 5.5 and I don't need to set anything, whenever I save my .PSD it is refreshed

In DE I got that far but I ran into the same issue with the DE not refreshing. I tried pressing F5 but that didn't work then I tried refreshing the texture list from one of the tabs and still didn't work. I had to manually go in and reset the texture every time for it to update.

Daniel could you upload the .obj file for the Porsche? I'd like to see how easy this makes painting over the rear fenders.
