Hi All

I have built several tracks in BTB for use in GTR2 I am getting a problem with AI congestion. From race start the AI bunch into turn one and are extremely slow. The first two or three corners they're dropping right down to 5mph/kmh almost stand still.

This is the same on every track build, regardless of how tight or open the first few corners are. For example, starting on the back of a 36 car grid it's possible to pass 10 cars off the line and down the straight, 15-20 cars around the outside entering turn 1. They'll all be bunched, nose to tail. Not until around mid lap do AI become more racy.

I've ensured grids do not have more cars than the track maximum, altered the AI waypoints as much as i can in BTB by increasing the gap between them, and reducing the angle as much as possible. I've seen an AIW editor for rFactor but cannot seem to find anything for editing within BTB, or for GTR2.

Can anyone help? How do i stop AI bunching like this and speed them up. I've built some great tracks and created some really good championships which i'd like to share with other GTR2 users and even mod for other games but this first lap congestion is ruining the racing. Needs to be solved before i can release my track builds.

What do your corridors look like? Could be too thin and the AI thinks it’s driving in a small one lane road.

I've not adjusted them. I used the fast line to create the racing line and adjusted waypoints. But didn't do anything with the corridors, i didn't know they can be altered so they would be on default.

So you're suggesting i should open up the original build in BTB, and see how to widen the corridors? Then save the new AIW file. Try that.

Have adjusted the corridors, widen them to full track width. Some places slightly wider to encourage run-off curb use.

Changed ingame settings for AI from 100% to 119%


There is a slight improvement, but they're still bunching at turns one and two, as well as the hairpin toward the back of the circuit where it's an almost standstill.

Maybe it's the problem with how BTB is creating AIW files? I've never worked with it so I don't know what to expect. Could you upload AIW file or compare waypoint parameters with original GTR2 tracks?

Here you go. Please note the same thing happens regardless of the car, race class, or AI settings (novice,semi pro, pro) etc. I currently have settings on semi pro with 119% and 'angry'

Also happens on my circuits with several long fast open corners NOT just those with a tight corner or hairpin.
ONLY happens on my custom built tracks but not to any of the addon tracks i have.

The screenshots don't fully show what's happening but for the first half of the lap, the AI get into bunches of five or ten cars, literally bumper to bumper and almost still, 5mph or 10 mph, very very slowly through the first three or four corners, and at some corners almost stopping (especially hairpins) but then once halfway around the track, they hit racing speed. It seems to be the first half of the lap, and doesn't matter if its a Mini cooper, a BTCC saloon or a GT3.

They seem to form two lines, but not overtake. Only about half way round lap one they start to overtake.

I've widened the corridors as you suggested to full track width PLUS some curb and runoff extra width. When i build tracks in BTB i usually set the track to 1.6 so they are wide enough for three cars abreast.

I tried that but it wold only allow a maxium of three images per post and for some reason rather than post the three images i uploaded, it posted one image three times. didn't have the time to mess around with figuring out why.

I suspect that AI is starting to race after the first sector. Am I right? I do not know why but I hope an AIW expert can benefit this observation.
