I was reading a post today and noticed for the billionth time [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] sig meme.

And I thought to myself, "What? I don't get a trophy for just showing up?!" And of course, the answer in my old brain was, "Hell no you don't! Read the sign!!!"

But this is a much more serious joke than the one that makes us all laugh. I have noticed that there are a lot of participation ribbons and certificates given out these days. People get multimillion dollar contracts because they are said to be great, or because they know or are related to someone somewhere.

But what is the compensation for being good at what you do? For me, a lot of days it is about the pleasure of a job well done. Because I expect greatness from myself. Why? I could just sit around and wait for someone to thank me for showing up. LOL

But I don't think that way because I was raised on that same saying. If you ain't first; you're last. Nobody every actually said it in those words, but that was implied and expected. Or as it was said in the movie Top Gun, "The Plaque for second place is in the ladies room." That was before the ladies were allowed to flight combat missions of course, lol! I don't know where it is now? The broom closet?

Thanks [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]!
