Re: Skinning question
It is possible sort of, for cars I want to skin without a template it's just a case of trial and error of layer placement till the skin is correct, then you can save it as a Photoshop file a d use it as a template for future skins of the chosen car, takes a while for the first one but after that it's relatively painless
Re: Skinning question
In theory you could. But you would have to manually paint it. It wouldn't be fun at all.
3DS Max has settings where it will create the wireframe and "burn" layer for you. I've only did it once a long time ago. I use to have a step by step that made it fairly easy.

Could never wrap my head around 3dsmax but then I didn't have anyone to help me, Photoshop on the other hand I've been using it for about 15 years so personally it's easy just time consuming on the first one, did two R8 ultra GT3's yesterday for V3.0 from a BES skin pack for V2.3, first one tool me an hour or do but the 2nd was done in 15 mins
