Hello everyone,

My name is Tobias.  People usually just call me Toby since everyone has either had a dog or cat by that name at some point.  I came across the site while looking for mods for AMS.  After a few days hanging around and reading, I decided last night to apply for driver status.

I hail from Maryland, USA (UTC  -5),  just outside the lovely but dangerous City of Baltimore. I am 51 years old and have been racing on and offline for a number of years. I compete in the Chequered Flag Endurance club and the sponsored competitions in RaceRoom. I had tried to race with a team in pCars, but could not continue because the FFB of the game prohibited me from being competitive. I recently bought rFactor2, but I am sorting graphics issues to make that game run smoothly. So far AMS and R3E have offered me the best experience.

I like the sense of community here and think that it would be a good racing home for me.  I had already downloaded the GT3 cars and tracks and understand the terms and conditions of owning them.

I also pledge to have any of it removed if I come across and can identify anything I find posted anywhere else on the web.  I have seen a lot of that in the early days of Assetto Corsa (My first PC Driver after years of Gran Turismo), and I don't have the stomach to tolerate it.

I am a programmer and media developer in what I would call my free time, as I also am caretaker for twin sisters who are autistic and bi-polar. This doesn't offer many challenges to racing on Sundays because they already give me a break to watch racing on Sundays, F1, NASCAR, DTM and GT series. I have many European friends through work and racing, so I an already accustomed to working the Euro time zones. Being in the first TZ after the ocean helps, as opposed to if I lived in California or something.

Well, thanks for listening, and I will see you all here on the forums and hopefully soon, on the track!

Toby,
Welcome buddy. I'm just south of you in VA. Good to see another "experienced", ahem, guy in the fold here at EEC.
I joined early in 2015 making my first starts in online racing after retiring from the military. Not much opportunity with that lifestyle to run online.
I've seen the transition here from GTR2 though GSCE to the current AMS platform.
The community here is awesome. Very welcoming and low maintenance to get up and running. The on track experience has had ups and downs like everything else does. Right now I'd assess its in a sweet spot with a cadre of experienced, respectful and very competitive drivers. The "Pro" group population has waned as of late with departures as people do other things for fun. But the "Am" group has grown with some new additions and now boasts at least a dozen guys to go at it with. Not sure where you'll fit in, but I know you'll have fun.
The next GT season starts in a few weeks. Sign up in the series thread. I'll hook you up with any gouge you need. Just ask.
Have fun bud! Hope to see you on track soon.
Paul

I thank everyone for their warm welcomes.  From all of my favorite places, Virginia, Pennsylvania, the UK, Russia and, Australia.  People and places that know about racing!

I will definitely be jumping in as I upgrade my game to include the cars, tracks and, liveries that are used here.  I took a couple of the GT3 base cars for a spin at Watkins Glen on Sunday night and almost up all night enjoying their driveability.  The FFB is almost plug and play for my old-new tech G27 and at least I don't think I will be the black Danica around here. (The American boys can explain that for anyone who doesn't know). Smile

I will start exploring the leagues and see what I can find to get into so you all can get to know me on track.  Thanks again folks!

Toby,
More than welcome buddy. Danica...that's funny!
RS Cup race is this Sunday. Monza, easy track, but hard to get all the secrets down.
Set your AI to 110% for GT3 Mod and RS Cup mod (which is just an add on to GT3) to see what the top guys will usually run.
Go to the Series thread to sign up. There are a base pack of skins I did for RS Cup. # 500 series cars. You can pick one and run if you'd like. Check out the rules thread. Common sense stuff. Cardinal rule-don't hit anybody. I run with virtual mirrors too. Less performance loss than the spotter for me.
Go to the Next Event thread for Monza to see the schedule.

Next GT3 season will be Australian GT based. It has its own Series thread for you to sign up.
It's low maintenance to get started. Lots of help here too. Setups, advice etc.
PM me with any questions. Welcome!

Thankl you sir! I missed this Sunday but will get in the next one. Thanks for the advice about AI! That is one of the biggest questions I always have. I will PM you tomorrow with my list of questions so that I may be prepared to start this next Aussie GT season. Sounds fun and interesting.

I love Danica. She's a sweetheart. But she is not the best out there. Something we both have in common. But I admire her fire and passion for racing to the best of her ability. Something we also have in common. And she's getting better. As far as me; you guys will have to make that determination, lol! At least she is not causing every crash she's been in this year.

I can't say that yet. I am a late braker, but strive not to divebomb until the last corner of the race. And if I do hit someone, I never mean it and I will fall behind them or even wait if I spin them, before proceeding. I think that's only fair. I will even try to help them get back up through the field if they lose any positions. Fun and honor come first. If I can get a win, that's just a huge bonus.

I do want a rookie yellow strip on my bumper though. No joke. Very Happy Thanks again. Black Danica out!

Toby
